THE MONKEY KING
We call this one “Power and Partnership”. This is like no leadership training you’ve ever seen – promise!
The form of the Monkey King came to us from a French theatre teacher named Philippe Outier. The makeup and concept are derived from the Monkey King character of the Peking Opera who is part God, part king, and part monkey. He creates the Universe, Rules the World, and is a mischievous trickster all at the same time.
Participants spend 45 minutes putting on their own make-up, becoming completely transformed. Then they engage in a series of intense and exciting exercises where their own Monkey King character is revealed.
It becomes a training ground for the expansion of personal presence, perception and power. As with all our work, we are taking a theatrical form (which we can say with certainty is a complete novelty to participants) and using it to train leadership skills applicable to any field.
This work is physical, full of passion, and deeply challenging. It gives participants an entirely new context to see themselves and be seen by others. They release pent-up energy and stress, and to explore a focused connection to their “audience”. In the process, they to step into new kind of personal power. It’s also wildly fun.
